In his first Epistle Saint Peter begins to stir things up with regard to what is expected of a believer in his or her very personal life relationships. In 3.7 we read: Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, This concept of submission is never to be viewed as a one way street toward the husband, but as a two way street between the two halves of one whole—a relationship of the heart rules.

The entire matter of respect must be approached differently from what might be perceived in the natural. This is a mutual sharing of respect rather than that of reaching down to assist one who is beneath: and treat them with respect as the weaker partner, The weakness viewed in a partner likewise is not to be seen as helping one who simply cannot make it on her own, but as one who is rooted within the family.

The Lord has declared himself to be the husband of both man and woman in marriage, which stabilizes a relationship for mutual support, joy, life, and ministry: and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, When we are looking at the relationship of a husband and wife we are looking at two portions of one whole life and ministry for the Lord—none is complete without the other, and God gives full life to the couple.

To live life as one unit of faith and to minister to the world in the name and power of Jesus demands a true reliance on him as the source of our abilities: so that nothing will hinder your prayers. As the man and woman come under the singular headship of Jesus Christ for their lives and ministry they will find a strong support from their Lord as they submit themselves to each other and their God. We need all God will give.
