The author of the Letter to the Hebrews has a great deal to teach us about faith and how faith works in the life of the servant of God. In 11.20-22 we read: By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future. The direction God gives to those who are willing to faithfully serve him do not always match what is expected in the natural at all. Esau was the elder son and deserved the first blessing, right? NO!
Is that fair? One has to determine fair only by what the Lord has declared as truth, and God knew he could rely on Jacob, but not so much on his brother. The same thing happened with Joseph’s sons: By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff. The younger of the two received the right-hand blessing because God knew what to expect.
Joseph had been sold into Egypt by his brothers because they didn’t like the youngest telling them what to expect from God. After he came into his own maturity and faith walk with the Almighty he became a very strong tool: By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt; Every word of his youth had come to pass and now he spoke of the future days of God’s children.
Joseph knew that things would go well for God’s people as long as the people of Egypt remembered his role in their own lives, but when they began to see Israel as a major threat to their existence there would be serious trouble. But he also knew that God would deliver them back to their homeland. He demanded that his bones return with them: and gave instructions about his bones. Let’s talk about faith-filled servants.
