The author of the Letter to the Hebrews has a great deal to teach us about faith and how faith works in the life of the servant of God. In 11.4-6 we read: By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead. There is an eternal quality about faith as expressed in this life.
God responds to every ounce of faith in a believer, even to the point of simply removing that faith-filled one from the pains of life: By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. He no longer had to face the difficulties of trying to live out the faith life in the presence of all those things which sought to destroy him and his walk for God.
It is faith which pleases Father God more than we might imagine. The Lord even goes so far as to declare the inability to please Him at all without faith in God: For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, The very best thing to be said about anyone on this earth is that we trusted in the Lord God with every ounce of being his servants.
It is not possible to serve one in whom we do not believe—that is, one in whom we have no faith. Not to exercise faith in God is to deny his very existence: because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. And the rewards for serving God in a state of faith-filled life far outweigh anything we might expect out of life—an eternity with the One we love.
